The New Facebook Timeline Page

Facebook for Business Series

The time has arrived! Facebook pages will now feature the new timeline design. This is a huge redesign and I’m sure marketers will be putting out webinars and trainings everywhere. Ill begin to research and share the best with the community on the facebook page, which has already been converted. For now here a brief list of the changes:

  1. No landing page tab anymore
  2. A new cover photo (the big photo at the top of the page)
  3. Only 4 of your original tabs showing at any one time before people have to click for more
  4. Pages can only have a maximum of 12 tabs showing in total
  5. The default view is highlights, which means that posts are no longer in chronological order
  6. The info tab has got kind of cool and has a much largest presence
  7. New messaging option, that allows people to message the page admins privately
  8. The page admin can choose posts to feature on the page, if a post is chosen it stays at the top for 7 days
  9. The page admins can also choose to star a post which will make it wider and therefore standout more

  • 51% of Americans over the age of 12 are on facebook compared to twitter at 8%
  • 46 million people check their social media accounts many times a day
  • 25% of people follow brands they know on social media

Facebook Posting Science

  • Articles posted on Saturday are shared the most
  • Sunday is second most shared
  • Best times of the day to get articles shared 8 am and 6 pm
  • Best sharing and fan retention are those pages who post every other day

Are you posting questions on facebook and getting no response? Try asking questions that are easy to answer. Questions that require a one word response or even yes or no will get more people involved in answering questions. Examples:

Not: Do you have any plans for the weekend?

Instead Try: Are you staying home or going out of town this weekend?

But why do I want people to get engaged on facebook? Great question and thank you for asking. (Wink Wink) The more traffic and activity on your page, the higher  your page moves up  in facebook ranking, which means your content is showing up in more News Feeds!

With all the talk and buzz coming from Facebook’s f8 convention, it’s exhausting to keep up!! I’m seeing new webinars and posts about the new Facebook daily and with all it’s changes I’m feeling over whelmed!!! Reality check: these new Facebook changes are no game changer! (Did he really just say that?) You see Facebook is a platform, a tool, for you to have in your small business marketing toolbox, it’s not the toolbox! Facebook is part of a Game Changer called the Social Web, the social web was our marketing game changer.

Now the Social Web is constantly changing and growing, remember “The only thing that stays constant is change,” with new sites and tools added all the time. When a big company with a ton of influence say, Facebook, comes and makes these changes we often think, “Oh no my social media marketing strategy needs to change!” While we have new tools to use this does not change the foundation of your social web marketing strategy, the game changer, in many ways. Example: Wasn’t it not long ago all we saw was content about Google+, ehh? Did that change the Social Web? No, it gave us a new platform and tools, also reasons for some of Facebook’s updates.

Still don’t believe me? A few weeks back I did a Facebook marketing training video, some of which will need to be updated so you can get the most out of the platform. But the ideas in the training can still be used today after all these changes:

  • Become a promoter, Give first and don’t forget to tag people
  • Obtain a Facebook URL and promote it
  • Find a way to attract traffic by providing value (Local Networking Calendar)
  • Post content to create engagement
  • Use it as tool to create traffic to your website
  • Use Facebook for Mobile Marketing or “The Third Screen”

Wow, you can still do all these things today!!! Bottom line: Don’t let changes in any platform discourage you, continue to focus on what is working and tweaking changes to continue to see positive results.

I posted a video last night with some Facebook Marketing Gold, and today I found a huge update that needs to be made. As of today, you no longer need those 25 likes for a custom URL!!!

 

This process is even easier than before!!!!

 

1. Simply Create your Facebook Page, Need Help Click HERE

2. Go to Facebook.com/username

3. Your done to simple.

 

Again you no longer need 25 “Likes” on your page to get  a custom URL on Facebook…

The Power of the Facebook Check-In-Marketing Quick Bit

Don’t you just love going somewhere and using Facebook’s Check-in feature?  It is a quick easy way to let your friend’s know where you are, what your doing and who you are with! And it’s available on all smartphones.

Enter the marketing wheels…how can you as a business owner leverage this  service? I’m glad you asked allow me to explain.

By setting up your Facebook page, you can easily harness the power of social media by encouraging a Facebook or even Four Square check-in, for our series we will stay with the Facebook site.

Every time you check-in  an update post to your Facebook wall.  And all your friend see it.

Lets count how this can increase your exposure on Facebook:

If you have 100 friends and you post a Check-In.

100 people could potentially see it.  10 people check-in 10*100=1,000

In a single day you could get over  2,000 eyes or 1,000 views of potential clients!!!
